Important message regarding Economic Development from
President & CEO Lynda Weatherman

House Speaker Richard Corcoran has been vocal against state funding for economic development organizations and incentive programs. On February 2, 2017 a bill was introduced in the Florida House of Representatives that would eliminate Enterprise Florida, Visit Florida, and the Small Business Development Center, essentially eliminating the State’s economic, tourism, and small business development services and all incentives.

To bring awareness to the importance of economic development, both at the State and local level, the EDC was in Tallahassee in conjunction with the Florida Economic Development Council, and other Economic Development Organizations. The EDC was joined by major Brevard County businesses, employers, and stakeholders to lend their voice to the future of Florida’s economic development.

Economic development is a necessary component to keep Florida competitive; retaining and expanding critical new and existing industry. State level incentives are imperative to assist in job creation and to help keep our economy growing in a positive direction.

The EDC is closely monitoring the activity in Tallahassee and will keep you abreast of further developments. Your support of economic development is important to our community.
