EDC’s McCarthy Joins Select National Group

as Economic Development Master Practitioner

AEDL Program expands skills of senior level economic development professionals.

Space Coast, FL (August 15, 2019) – Following an intense, hands on education, the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast’s (EDC) Senior Director of Marketing and Strategic Initiatives, Trudy McCarthy, has earned the title of Economic Development Master Practitioner through the Advanced Economic Development Leadership (AEDL) program.

The AEDL program is a partnership of four distinguished universities; The University of Alabama, Clemson University, Texas Christian University, and the University of Southern Mississippi, and currently has less than 100 graduates across the nation.

The dynamic curriculum of AEDL was designed to expand and enhance the skills of senior-level economic development professionals by providing courses of study in innovation, project management, communications, negotiation and other economic development areas. World-class faculty include site consultants, business leaders, nationally known subject experts and university professors and industry practitioners. The advanced program presented leading-edge strategies and techniques necessary in the competitive and evolving world of job creation, while exploring economic development subjects that impact communities across the U.S.

“Trudy’s acceptance into the AEDL program after a highly-competitive selection process is a reflection of the caliber of staff at our EDC,” said Lynda Weatherman, President and CEO of the EDC. “This distinction is an example of our staff’s commitment to economic development and the success of our community.”

“It was an honor to be selected for the AEDL program,” said McCarthy. “I look forward to implementing best practices into the EDC’s strategic program, as we continue to further strengthen our local economy.”

McCarthy has been with the EDC since 2002. In her current role, she identifies and implements industry best practices for the improvement of the internal systems with an eye towards future goals and budgets. She is responsible for the collaborative development and oversight of EDC programs, business operations, financial management and human resources.
